Recalled Chili Products

 
On July 23, 2007, Castleberry’s Food Company of Georgia voluntarily expanded  its July 19 recall of canned meat products that may contain Clostridium botulinum.  Castelberry’s is recalling all of the following products that may still be in commerce, regardless of the “best buy” date stamped on the bottom of the can.   The following products are subject to recall:

Botulism is a rare but serious paralytic illness caused by a nerve toxin. Symptoms include double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, and muscle weakness, and can begin from 6 hours to 2 weeks after eating food that contains the toxin. Two children in Texas and an Indiana couple who ate these products became seriously ill and have been hospitalized.

Consumers who have these items at home are urged to return the item to the store where the product was bought for a full refund.  Anyone who finds any of these items in Connecticut stores are encouraged to notify the Department of Consumer Protection at (860) 713-6160.
