Present:  Emily Ball, April Burke, Adriano Cirioli, III, Committee Chair; Shannon Jacovino, Doris Maldonado Mendez, Council Chair; Kathie Strout, James Welsh,

  1. Call to Order with Quorum: The meeting was called to order at 1:02 p.m. There was no public present at the meeting, so the Committee moved on to the next agenda item.

     

  2. Approval of Agenda: Andy Cirioli, Committee Chair, asked for a motion to approve the agenda. April Burke motioned to approve the agenda. Shannon Jacovino seconded the motion. The agenda was approved.

     

  3. Approval of Minutes: Andy Cirioli, Committee Chair, entertained a motion to approve the minutes from Tuesday, February 24, 2022. Doris Maldonado Mendez, Council Chair made the motion to approve the minutes. April Burke seconded the motion. The minutes were approved. Shannon Jacovino, Kathie Strout, and James Welsh abstained.

  4. Discussion on Committee Priorities:  Actions are needed by the Legislature to improve the availability of affordable housing in CT.

    Regarding access to health care, a meeting with Ellen Andrews will be scheduled at the beginning of January. She has gathered and analyzed data to determine what the Council should be putting together for education and training for medical professionals to better improve accommodations, etc.

    The area of Eligibility was also discussed.

     

  5. Committee Plans: Andy Cirioli will focus on affordable housing.

    Shannon Jacovino raised the issue of the staffing crisis.

    James Welsh brought to the Committee’s attention to a 2002 CT voting statute 45-A-703. This issue is in his wheelhouse and he is addressing it.

    Doris Maldonado Mendez, Council Chair, said the Council needs to outreach to their allies, tap into their grantees, collaborate, connect with peers and colleagues. The Council can choose to be advocates on some issues or supporters.

     

  6. Election of Committee Officers: Andy Cirioli was re-elected as Committee Chair. April Burke was re-elected as Committee Vice-Chair.

     

  7. Adjournment:James Welsh made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Doris Maldonado Mendez, Council Chair; seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 2:13 p.m.
