Council Products
The Council is helping to introduce Charting the LifeCourse tools in
Connecticut for individuals who live with developmental disabilities.
The Council supports the bi-annual Building A Great Life Conference in
collaboration with the University Center for Excellence in Developmental
Disabilities and Disability Rights of Connecticut, Inc.
The Building A Great Life documentary by CPTV examines the case for
closing Connecticut’s state institutions that provide congregate residential
care for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, many with
complex needs who receive a high level of state care and support.
The Journey to Community Housing with Supports was developed by The Arc
Connecticut with funding from the Council.
The University of Connecticut for Excellence in Developmental
Disabilities received funding from the Council to develop a resource for people
with disabilities seeking available, affordable, and accessible housing.
The University of Connecticut Center of Excellence in Developmental
Disabilities, Disability Rights Connecticut, and the Council offer Partners in Policymaking training annually to teach people to be leaders in shaping policy
for people with disabilities and their families. Graduates of CT Partners in
Policymaking often become members of boards, councils, task forces and advisory
committees.
The Council supports People First of Connecticut.
The Council supports CT-KASA (Kids As Self Advocates) to teach young
people about their rights; how to advocate for themselves, how to take control
over their own lives, and how to change the systems that affect their lives.
The Council funded the development of the All-Abilities AllianceHandbook to help prevent bullying by bringing students with and without
disabilities together and creating an inclusive environment where all kids can
thrive and grow.
The Council supports the Connecticut Cross Disability Lifespan Alliance
The Council supports the Parents with Cognitive Limitations Workgroup, a
state-wide partnership among public and private agencies and families.
The Council is funding training in Customized Employment for private
DDS providers in Connecticut.
The Council is working with the University of Connecticut Center for
Excellence in Developmental Disabilities to establish a state collaborative to
enhance higher education options for students with intellectual disability.
