About Connecticut Climate Action

Governor Lamont has issued three Executive Orders to take action to address the climate crisis. In April 2019, the Governor's first Executive Order launched GreenerGov CT — a bold set of goals for state agencies for the next decade to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, curb wasteful water use, and reduce the amount of waste disposed at state facilities. Meeting these goals requires concerted focus, inter-agency coordination and the implementation of best practices. In September 2019, Executive Order 3 was issued re-establishing and expanding the membership and responsibilities of the Governor’s Council on Climate Change, also known as the GC3. The new GC3 was charged with making continued progress towards mitigation strategies to reduce greenhouse gases economy wide and consider adaptation and resilience in the face of climate change impacts. All GC3 recommendations are developed with an equity and environmental justice lens. In December 2021, Governor Lamont issued Executive Order 21-3 with 23 actions to codify sub-targets to meet the overall goals for GreenerGov CT and take additional executive actions to implement 30+ recommendations of the GC3 to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
