Connecticut Insurance Department Names
Chief Inclusion Officer
Connecticut Insurance Department (CID) Commissioner Andrew N. Mais has announced that Kristin Campanelli Esq. has accepted the position of Chief Inclusion Officer for the agency.
“The Department is fully focused on protecting consumers from any discrimination and finding a solution where all residents have access to insurance, and especially in underserved communities,” said Commissioner Mais. “We are committed to working with state and national partners and the industry on these important issues. I am confident that Kristin Campanelli will be both a resource for industry and a change agent within the department.”
“I am very excited to be a part of this important work,” said Kristin Campanelli. “Inclusion is about how well the contributions, presence, and perspectives of different groups of people are valued and integrated. Inclusion means having everyone having a voice, and for as vital an industry as insurance, it means helping all Connecticut residents get access to the right insurance products.”
As the nation continues to grapple with issues of race and inclusion, Commissioner Mais has led discussions in several National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) forums on race, diversity, and inclusion within the insurance industry and in insurance practices. Mais is Vice President of the NAIC and is also a member of their Special Executive Committee on Race and Insurance.
While Commissioner Mais is actively involved in the conversations on the national level through the NAIC, he also made the topic a priority within the Department. Mais established an Inclusion Council at the CID now chaired by Kristin Campanelli, the Department’s Chief Inclusion Officer.
The CID Inclusion Council focuses on three areas of work: Training, Review of Internal Operations, and Recruitment and Retention. The Inclusion Council has partnered with the State Education Resource Center who provided instructor-led diversity training across the department.
Commissioner Mais has also participated in efforts led by Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz to address social inequities in Connecticut, including the Council on Women and Girls and cultural competency initiatives.
