What is a Motor Vehicle Physical Damage Appraiser (MVPD)?

APPRAISER – Person who surveys the property (motor vehicle) to determine its insurable value or the amount of loss sustained. He/she does this by writing up an estimate (appraisal) of the repairs required.

MOTOR VEHICLE PHYSICAL DAMAGE (MVPD) APPRAISER – Motor Vehicle Physical Damage Appraiser means any person who or which practices as a business the appraising of damages to motor vehicles insured under automobile physical damage policies or on behalf of third party claimants. (REF: CGS §38a-790)

MOTOR VEHICLE PHYSICAL DAMAGE APPRAISAL – Written appraisal of damage or loss to a motor vehicle caused by collision, overturn, fire, theft, vandalism, or malicious mischief.

MOTOR VEHICLE PHYSICAL DAMAGE APPRAISER EDUCATION - Connecticut does NOT require pre-licensing education. You may want to use the following three study guides to prepare for your exam:

Once you have passed, you can apply for the license by going to the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Under Licensing Center, select “Apply for a New License.”. The Motor Vehicle Physical Damage Appraiser application fee is $130.00.

Prerequisites:

Take the Connecticut written exam or current equivalent license in any other state. Applicants must take a written examination administered by Pearson VUE.
