CT-TF-1 Application Process

The application process for team membership will end on January 31, 2003. Interested applicants may obtain applications from any of the following locations:

Minimum Qualifications For Applicants:

  • Applicant shall be a State of Connecticut resident with the exception of the following task force positions:  Medical Doctor, Structural Engineer, Canine Search Specialist.
  • Applicant shall have a current, valid Connecticut Drivers License
  • Applicant must be a citizen in good standing
  • Applicant must be in good physical and mental condition
  • Applicant shall supply a resume and at least three (3) personal character references
  • Applicant must pass the medical screening evaluation
  • Applicant must pass the Physical Ability and Skills Test as outlined in the application packet
  • Applicant must agree to be deployed for up to 14 days maximum at any incident and be available to attend and participate in monthly drills
  • Applicant must have appropriate Memoranda of Understanding signed by applicant and employer

Each applicant shall have the following minimum training levels based on the component being applied for.

  • Incident Command Systems -I-200
  • Confined Space- Awareness
  • Hazardous Materials- Awareness

Rescue & Search Specialist

  • Confined Space- Operations
  • Trench Rescue - Awareness
  • Hazardous Materials - Operations
  • Structural Collapse-Awareness
  • Basic Rope Rescue
  • First Responder-CPR
  •  

    Medical Specialist

    • Licensed Physician
    • Paramedic or MIC Nurse
    •  

      Structural Specialist

      • Structural Engineering Degree
      •  

        Canine Specialist

        • Approved canine applicant in CT-TF-1 canine evaluation
        •  

          Technical Information Specialist

          • Understanding of computer hardware and software
          • Writing and communication skills
          •  

            Communication Specialist

            • Understanding of communications technologies
            • Advanced radio and telecommunications skills
            •  

              Law Enforcement Specialist

              • Sworn Connecticut Police Officer (minimum five [5] years experience)
              • Minimum two (2) years within an operational Major Crime Squad or Detective Unit

              MEDICAL REVIEW

              The medical review questionnaire shall be prepared and signed by a medical physician prior to acceptance as a Team Member.

              INTERVIEW

              All applicants shall be interviewed by a Selection Committee consisting of the Administrative Coordinator,TFL, appropriate component manager, and a component member to determine the correctness of the application and to explore information presented on the resume.

              SKILLS AND ABILITY TEST

              All applicants shall be subjected to a skills and abilities practical test to demonstrate the competencies specified in the qualification section. The skills and abilities test shall be conducted by the Fire Academy and staff with assistance from the Administrative Coordinator,TFL, Component Manager.

              Applicants shall complete the Application Form Package and Critical Tasks and Fitness Standards Form as directed in the package instructions.

              Applicants shall include copies of the highest level of certification or the latest certificates they have obtained in all qualification areas as established by NFPA 1670 in their resume.

              Applicants will be rated objectively based on qualifications, skills and experience and shall be assigned a component status (Command, rescue, search, planning, logistics or medical).

              The Selection Committee will establish a time schedule for new applicant interviewing and skill testing by the appropriate component managers.
