Dear Chief, Fire Marshal and Juvenile Firesetter Coordinator:

The Commission on Fire Prevention and Control in the past has offered Juvenile Firesetter Intervention training under the Firehawk Program. We still offer the Firehawk Program upon request, but we are offering a new two-day program that is designed to meet the needs of Fire Departments who do not have all the resources necessary to run a Firehawk Program with firefighters as Companions.

On December 10 and 11, 2005 the Commission will offer, at no charge, a "Juvenile Firesetter Basic Program" which will prepare anyone who works with children and families to identify and screen the Juvenile Firesetter. Participants will be challenged to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Participation will focus on small group exercises including role-playing; active listening; and interview techniques. The participants will learn skills for working collaboratively with community networks, including referral options.
