Update to Hazardous Materials Certification in 2020
The Certification Division has made some updates to the Hazardous Materials Operation level. As some of you will recall ten years ago Hazardous Materials certification was added into the FF1 level based on changes from the NFPA. Mission specific levels were added to the Core level for Haz Mat. A couple of those additions were Illicit Drug Labs and Evidence Gathering & Sampling. Eventually those two levels were dropped. The Certification Division was reaccredited by both The Pro Board and IFSAC within the past year. A change in process with both of the accreditation boards facilitated the need to move Illicit Drug Labs and Evidence Gathering back into our certification levels. Beginning with the 2020 FF1 classes, Certification will test ALL of the Mission Specific levels in Hazardous Materials Operations. We created (1) Skill Sheet for Illicit Drug Labs and (1) Skill Sheet for Evidence Gathering, which will be added to the Task Books. We WILL NOT be adding a practical skills station. Written exam questions will randomly pull from each level. Students can expect questions for both Drub Labs and Evidence Gathering on the final exam. The updated skill sheets and Task Books are now available. New Skills Sheets are HMO 28, 29, & 30. Any questions or concerns please contact Jeff Morrissette @ jeff.morrissette@ct.gov
