National Fire Incident Reporting System: Program Manager

The Connecticut Fire Academy in association with the National Fire Academy presents a six day course that is offered to enhance the knowledge and skills of those individuals responsible for the managing of NFIRS and/or multiple fire/EMS data bases in their organization; and/or for those responsible for the training of field-level data collection and reporting staffs. The National Fire Incident Reporting System: Program Manager course will be held Monday September 23 through Saturday September 28, 2013 at the Connecticut Fire Academy in Windsor Locks, CT.

This course provides informa ti on about the systems capabiliti es, data collec ti on and analysis, and the available reporti ng features. Focus is on the higher level knowledge, skills, and abilities required to collect, compile, and analyze NFIRS data, to develop decision packages used as the basis for Standards of Cover and for compara ti ve data based on local, State, or nati onal data and trends. Accepted students shall bring to class a laptop computer with Microso ft Excel installed.

Anticipated student outcomes:

Shape the future of the fire service and response to community needs through effective use of information.

Understand the roles and responsibilities of users involved in NFIRS.

Identify and explain the benefits of collecting and compiling incident data through NFIRS.

Apply coding strategy principles to better document Incidents.

Understand and apply proper data analysis and presentation techniques.

Select and use proper methodologies to support the decision- making process using NFIRS data.

The course fee is $120.00 with lunch included each day. The Office of Education and Data Management has assigned this course 12 Fire Marshal credits for Connecticut Fire Marshals. CFA course number is 14023. Applications should be submitted by August 15, 2013.
