Conquer your career goals

Over 17 and need your High School Diploma? We've got you.

Why Your High School Diploma Matters

Getting your high school diploma is an important step for your future. Most jobs and training programs need a High School diploma. A diploma also helps you build reading, writing, and math skills that you use every day at work and in life.

Adult Education programs in Connecticut are free and made for busy adults. You can learn at your own pace and get support from teachers who understand your goals.

Ways to Earn Your High School Diploma in Connecticut

Connecticut has three main options for adults who want to finish high school. All programs are offered through local Adult Education centers and supported by the Connecticut State Department of Education.

1. Adult High School Credit Diploma (AHSCD)

  • You take classes to earn the credits you still need to graduate
  • Classes can be in person or online
  • You may earn credit for work or military experience
  • You get a local high school diploma

2. GED®

  • You study for four tests: Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reading/Writing
  • Classes help you prepare
  • You earn a high school equivalency diploma that is accepted nationwide

3. National External Diploma Program (NEDP)

  • You show your skills through real‑life tasks instead of taking tests
  • Work at your own pace
  • Good for adults who like independent learning

Connecticut State Community Colleges

Free Community College Opportunities

Connecticut offers a way for students to go to community college for free. This program is called PACT: Pledge to Advance Connecticut. PACT helps first‑time college students pay for tuition and fees so they can start a degree or career program without worrying about the cost.

PACT is for students who:

  • Are attending a Connecticut community college for the first time
  • Enroll full‑time
  • Complete the FAFSA or Aid Application
  • Live in Connecticut

If you qualify, PACT covers the gap between financial aid and the cost of tuition. This means you can focus on learning, building skills, and preparing for a good career.

Many Career ConneCT training pathways connect directly to programs offered at Connecticut’s community colleges, so PACT can be a strong first step toward a long‑term career plan.

You can find full details, eligibility rules, and how to apply on the official Connecticut community college website.
