Key Questions about SNAP and Medicaid Benefits

New federal work and community engagement rules apply to certain SNAP and HUSKY Health (HUSKY D) recipients, but not everyone is affected, and exemptions are available.

How Training Helps: Participating in approved education or workforce training can satisfy qualifying work activities to help you maintain your benefits while building long-term career skills.

If You Receive a Notice: Read any notices from the Department of Social Services (DSS) carefully. They will outline changes, required proof or exemptions, and deadlines.

Getting Help & Support: If your benefits have changed or you need guidance navigating these rules, visit DSS portal.ct.gov/dss-hr1, call the DSS Benefits Center at 1-855-626-6632, or reach out to your local Community Action Agency for free assistance. Connect with your local American Job Center to find training programs that fit your goals and benefit requirements.
