Lucky Pond, Wallingford - 2022
2022 Aquatic Plant Survey Map of Lucky Pond
Lucky Pond, also known as Galko Farm Pond, is a 1-acre waterbody on the Fresh Meadows open space property in Wallingford, CT. The maximum depth of the pond is 8.2 feet.
The July 2022 aquatic plant survey found 3 native species and one invasive species. The native species were arrowhead (Sagittaria species), spineless hornwort (Ceratophyllum echinatum), and swamp smartweed (Polygonum hydropiperoides). Invasive Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum) is the dominant species and was found around the entire shoreline of the pond. Invasive curlyleaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus) was previously found in 2005 but was not observed in 2022. There was no boat access to the pond in 2022, so a visual survey was completed from the shoreline. Dense wetland vegetation limited shoreline access, but grapples were used to gather aquatic plant data in areas not accessible by foot.
