Lucky Pond, Wallingford
Lucky Pond (also known as Galko Farm Pond) is a 1-acre body of water surrounded by former agricultural fields that are now part of a land trust. The maximum depth is 8.2 feet.
Our July 2005 survey found all aquatic plants along the water’s edge. The most widespread species was leafy pondweed (Potamogeton foliosus); it was found in a large area of the northeastern part of the pond and sparsely along the other shores. Floating-Leaf pondweed (Potamogeton natans) was also found frequently. The invasive curlyleaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus) was found in two locations along the eastern shore and the southern shore, while invasive Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum) was found in patches in the northern section of the pond.
