Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today announced a settlement under which the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will set greenhouse gas pollution limits for power plants and refineries by 2012.

            The agreement settles two lawsuits that state attorneys general and New York City filed to compel EPA to limit greenhouse gas pollution from electricity generators and refineries.

            EPA has agreed to finalize regulations limiting greenhouse gases emissions from electric generating units by May 26, 2012 and Refineries by November 10, 2012.

            “This settlement advances the fight against climate disruption without jeopardizing jobs or economic growth,” Blumenthal said. “The EPA has committed to controlling greenhouse gas emissions from the biggest emitters.”
