Attorney General Announces Claim Letters Sent To F&S Customers, Informational Website Operating

April 6, 2010

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today announced that claim letters have been sent to almost 10,000 F&S Oil customers and creditors who may be eligible for a share of about $1 million in restitution secured by his office.

The money compensates consumers for oil and services they paid for but never received after F&S abruptly ceased operations in 2008.

Claims administrator The Garden City Group of Seattle, Wash. sent the letters, which include information on applying for restitution, last Friday. They should begin arriving in mailboxes this week.

Blumenthal also announced that a website with information on the restitution program is up and running. The address is: http://www.fsoilsettlement.com/ Consumers with questions can visit the website or call the toll free information hotline, 1-800-961-2157.

“These claims letters and website bring consumers closer to money back for F&S oil and services they purchased, but never received,” Blumenthal said. “Consumers should watch their mail and promptly fill out and return enclosed materials to speed restitution. Consumers with questions can visit the F&S restitution website, call the toll free number or contact my office at (860) 808-5400.

“The administrator will distribute checks as soon as possible to F&S customers literally left in the cold by the company’s sudden closure. Scarce assets were a huge hurdle in our tough fight for restitution, but this result assures some relief. My office will work closely with the claims administrator to assure that consumers receive compensation fairly, quickly and efficiently.

“My office’s investigation into the collapse of F&S Oil is active and ongoing. We continue pursuing additional assets for restitution to F&S customers.”

Consumers will have until May 3, 2010 to return applications for restitution mailed them. F&S customers who suffered a personal, household or family loss will be eligible for restitution. The amount each claimant receives will be determined by the claims administrator and the Attorney General's Office, depending in part on how many claims are received
