Attorney General's Statement On Water Rate Decrease

"The Connecticut Water Company has gone against the current -- requesting and receiving a rate decrease for consumers when they need it the most.

"Even more than the rate relief, this decrease deserves praise because of the message it sends to consumers and other utilities. The Connecticut Water Company commendably and proactively pursued this relief, without prodding or public outcry. This self-sought rate reduction recognizes that consumers are cutting back, and so should public utility companies.

"This case should set a new standard for decency among public utilities -- encouraging others to efficiently cut costs, lower rates and respect consumers in this crippling economic era."
