Attorney General's Statement On Connecticare Agreement To Continue Coverage For Middlesex Doctors

June 12, 2009

"I am pleased that ConnectiCare -- after my office met with representatives for both the company and the doctors -- has agreed to abandon plans to discontinue its contract with Middlesex doctors as of June 30, and will continue coverage impacting several thousand patients.

"An abrupt contract collapse could have devastated patients at the worst possible economic time. This agreement will allow negotiations for a new contract to continue over the next several months, and enables doctors to maintain their focus on health care, rather than the threat of losing their patients.

"Avoiding a legal battle and health care disruption, ConnectiCare has agreed to continue its MPS contract for a year.

"I urge both parties to constructively use this time to amicably resolve their differences without disturbing health care treatment and coverage to several thousand patients."

Blumenthal thanked those in his office involved in the negotiations -- Arnold I. Menchel, Chief of the AttorneyGeneral's Health Care Fraud Unit; Phillip Rosario, Chief of the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Unit; and Assistant Attorneys General Thomas P. Ryan, Charles C. Hulin, Zenobia Graham-Days and Jeffrey B. Zeman.
