Attorney General Welcomes Joint Letter From State Lawmakers Asking President To Reconsider FAA Flight Paths

February 6, 2009

"I welcome this powerful bipartisan letter requesting FAA reconsideration of this ill-conceived and illegal flight pattern plan. Perhaps the most important next step is the President's nomination of a new FAA administrator, who has the opportunity and obligation to completely overhaul the agency's present misguided plan.

"I hope the Obama administration will change FAA policy and leadership to address the legal claims in our lawsuit as well as the practical needs for airspace redesign. The present plan is fatally flawed, failing to take into account noise, air quality, environmental and other impacts, as well as the effect on state parks and wildlife areas.

"My office will continue to vigorously and aggressively pursue our lawsuit to overturn the flight paths, which threaten the region's environment, especially fragile and pristine state parks. Our next brief is due on March 6 and oral argument is scheduled for May."
