Far below normal precipitation has caused a drought and increased fire danger levels. All of Connecticut is currently in a Stage 2 Drought Advisory. Residents are encouraged to be mindful of water consumption and use extra caution to prevent fires. An emergency burn ban remains in effect at all state parks, forests, and wildlife management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, campfires, etc.

Attorney General Statement On Southington Landfill Settlements

December 15, 2009

"My office has long represented the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in seeking damages for contamination to the former Southington landfill. These settlements provide funds to complete cleanup of this environmental catastrophe. I am pleased that Southington can at last put to rest this long-running nightmare.

"The agreements provide the state $2.7 million for environmental restoration, funding DEP will use to rehabilitate damaged ecosystems. These funds will help revival vital and precious natural habitats, a fitting and fair use of damages for contamination."
