The National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) helps people who take care of family members or loved ones—often without pay. Caregiving can be hard, so this program gives caregivers support and time to rest.
The program helps people who care for:
- Older adults
- Grandchildren raised by grandparents or relatives
- Adults with disabilities
Program Services
Local staff at the Area Agencies on Aging help connect caregivers to services. They talk with each caregiver, see what they need, and figure out what support they can get.
Services may include:
- Information and help to find local resources
- Short breaks (respite care) so caregivers can rest
- Training to learn caregiving skills
- Support groups to connect with others
- Help paying for certain items or services not covered elsewhere
- Some services depend on things like income and how much help the person needs
Who can get help?
To qualify, there must be a caregiver and a person receiving care. One of these must apply:
- You are 18 or older and care for someone 60 or older
- You are 18 or older and care for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or a similar condition
- You are 55 or older and raising a child under 18 (like a grandparent caregiver)
- You are 55 or older and caring for an adult (ages 18–59) with a disability
