Where can I find LGBTQ resources for older adults?

We are pleased to announce that our staff have completed training provided by the National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging. The Bureau on Aging is now a designated Safe Space for members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer + (LGBTQ+) community.

Navigating aging can present unique challenges for LGBTQ+ individuals. This list of external resources provides valuable information, support services, and community connections for older adults within the LGBTQ+ community.

Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is made up of parents, families, friends, and straight allies united with people who are LGBTQ+. PFLAG is committed to creating a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

Greaterthan.org provides information on HIV testing, prevention, and treatment. Greater than us is a national public information initiative to increase knowledge, reduce stigma and promote actions to stem the spread of HIV in the U.S.

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force fights for justice, advances liberation, promotes equity, and is working towards a world where you are free to be you. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force trains activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBTQ+ referenda, and advances pro-LGBTQ+ legislation, as well as generating groundbreaking research.

SAGE Services offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBT older people and provides training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations.

The National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging provides training, technical assistance and educational resources to aging providers, LGBTQ+ organizations and LGBTQ+ older adults.

Advancing CT Together (ACT) is a non-profit organization that aims to combat poverty, addiction, and health disparities in Connecticut. ACT in partnership with its member agencies, improves the lives of people impacted by HIV through care and supportive services, housing, advocacy and prevention. LAMBDA Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.
