Before doing business with a financial company, ask for its privacy policy. Read it closely (even the fine print) and ask questions if necessary. If you receive notices from your bank online, you may receive the privacy notice by e-mail.

If you want to opt-out, most financial companies require you to let them know in writing or to call them directly. Remember to never send personal financial information, such as bank account numbers, or your social security number in an email. If you have specific questions about how to opt-out, call the customer service department of the financial company directly.
