Today: Secretary Thomas Launches Poll Worker Appreciation Day Program with Inaugural Event in Bethany
(Hartford, CT) – Today, Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas will launch her Poll Worker Appreciation Day program with the inaugural event in Bethany. Secretary Thomas will appear at Bethany Town Hall at 2 p.m. to offer brief remarks and present citations to some of Bethany’s longest-serving poll workers. Secretary Thomas hopes to highlight the importance of polling staff and the ever-increasing need for more citizens to step into these roles.
“Poll workers are everyday citizens – they are our friends, family and neighbors. Unfortunately, the public is not always aware of the critical role they play in our elections process,” said Secretary Thomas. “Our elections staff commit to long hours at the polls leading up to, on, and after Election Day in order to ensure smooth and secure elections for our citizens. And many do it multiple times per year, year after year. These Poll Worker Appreciation events are my small way of saying, ‘I see you, and I’m grateful for your contributions.’”
The Poll Worker Appreciation Days will occur throughout the year and will be held in tandem with town Registrars of Voters. At each event, Secretary Thomas will recognize individual poll workers with 20 or more years of elections service with a citation, and she will honor those with 10-19 years of service with a certificate.
Additional Poll Worker Appreciation Day events are planned for the coming weeks, including in Bloomfield on Wednesday, May 10, at 4 p.m. in the “Great Room” at the Alvin and Beatrice Wood Human Services Center.
