Lt. Governor Bysiewicz Statement on Secretary of State Denise Merrill Not Seeking Re-Election

From our time serving together in the General Assembly and as statewide constitutional officers, I have seen Denise Merrill serve the state of Connecticut with distinction and dedication. She will leave behind a legacy of expanding voting rights and access to the ballot box for all in Connecticut. I commend her for the work she did to ensure the 2020 election was held in a safe, secure, and accessible way during the Covid-19 pandemic.

I know firsthand that serving as Connecticut’s Secretary of State in Connecticut can be a challenging and rewarding role. Denise will leave behind a legacy of accomplishment during her three terms in office, from championing our state's Citizens' Elections Program, to modernizing state services, and securely and accessibly administering our elections. I wish her well as she begins what I know will be a productive next chapter in her life.
