Lt. Governor Bysiewicz Applauds President-elect Biden's Selection of Connecticut Department of Education Commissioner Miguel Cardona to Serve as U.S. Secretary of Education

Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz released the following statement applauding President-elect Joe Biden’s selection of Connecticut Department of Education Commissioner Miguel Cardona to serve as U.S. Secretary of Education.

“Miguel Cardona’s personal experience exemplifies the power of public education. As Connecticut’s top education official, Miguel has been a fierce champion for inclusivity and equity by making sure that every student has the opportunity to learn the rich diversity of our state and nation. Over the past year, I've had the opportunity to work with Commissioner Cardona to address and close our opportunity gap. When faced with a global health pandemic, he created the blueprint for how to reopen our schools safely without compromising the health of educators, administrators, staff and students. As a graduate of public schools, public colleges, and as a public school educator, he has seen firsthand the positive impact a teacher can have on a student's life.Throughout his own career, he has shown that with hard work, determination and tenacity, there is no obstacle too big to conquer. And that is what he will do as U.S. Secretary of Education. He will create opportunities for all of our nation’s children and will ensure that every student’s dreams are within reach. Congratulations to Commissioner Cardona! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish as you serve our country,” said Lt. Governor Bysiewicz.
