Governor Lamont Provides Update on Connecticut’s Coronavirus Response Efforts

(HARTFORD, CT) – As the State of Connecticut continues taking actions in response to the global spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Governor Ned Lamont provided the following updates as of 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021:

Data updates on testing in Connecticut

The following is a summary of the day-to-day newly reported data on cases, deaths, and tests in Connecticut. It is important to note that these newly reported updates include data that occurred over the last several days to a week. All data in this report are preliminary, and data for previous dates will be updated as new reports are received and data errors are corrected.

Governor Lamont signs executive order as part of ongoing response to COVID-19

Governor Lamont today signed an executive order as part of his administration’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Executive Order No. 12D enacts the following provisions:

• Implements certain requirements regarding evictions:
• Requires landlords to apply for the UniteCT rental assistance program prior to delivering an eviction notice for nonpayment of rent;
• Requires landlords to give tenants facing eviction for nonpayment of rent, for lapse of time, or whose right to occupy a unit has terminated at least 30-days’ notice prior to beginning an eviction;
• Provides those tenants an opportunity to continue all terms of the lease by paying outstanding rent within the 30-day period;
• Requires all eviction notices to be delivered with certain information about the state’s UniteCT program and the federal eviction moratorium in both English and Spanish; and
• Requires a stay in eviction proceedings of up to 30 days if either the landlord or the tenant applies to the UniteCT program.

Soccer fans can score a COVID vaccine at US Women’s National Team Send-Off Series

There will be more than one type of shot taking this place at the upcoming WNT Send-Off Series, Presented by VISA®, when all unvaccinated fans attending the US Women’s National Team game against Mexico can receive their COVID vaccine.

The soccer matches take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, and at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 5 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. The vaccines clinic will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. for the Thursday match, and from 2 to 5:30 p.m. for the match on Monday. As an extra incentive, all fans who receive their vaccine will receive a $15 food voucher redeemable at any concession stand located on the stadium concourse. The COVID vaccine clinic, which will be staffed by Griffin Health, will be located just outside the main entrance gates to the stadium.

“Connecticut has been committed to meeting people where they are at with COVID-19 vaccines since day one, and this is just another example of the outstanding outreach work being done at our Department of Public Health,” Governor Lamont said. “Getting your COVID-19 vaccine at the game will be safe, accessible, and quick. So, you don't need to worry about missing the game, and you get a $15 food voucher. I want to thank everyone involved for making these clinics happen. It is these types of partnership that have continued to help us combat the COVID-19 pandemic and get everyone vaccinated.”

“As Connecticut reopens, getting vaccinated for COVID-19 can get you back in the game.” Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz said. “The vaccines available in our state are safe, free, and effective, and they can protect you and your community. I encourage everybody who isn’t yet vaccinated to get the shot, then cheer on Megan Rapinoe, Carli Lloyd and the rest of our Women’s National Team as they prepare for Tokyo! Today’s announcement shows just how committed Connecticut is to reaching our goal of getting every person in our state vaccinated.”

According to Acting Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Deidre S. Gifford, more than four million doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered to date and about 70% of adult residents in the state have been fully vaccinated.

“Connecticut is a national leader in terms of vaccination rates but there is still more to be done to ensure that our residents are protected from this deadly virus,” Acting Commissioner Gifford said. “There continues to be a decrease in vaccination rates among younger adults so that’s why there is a perfect fit with events like the WNT Send-Off Series. It gives those younger adults an added incentive to get vaccine and protect themselves and their loved ones.”

Michael W. Freimuth, executive director of the Capital Region Development Authority, said the Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field site has played a pivotal role throughout the COVID pandemic by hosting COVID testing and food sharing events that have benefited thousands of Connecticut residents.

“COVID has taught us that our public venues offer so much more than entertainment, they have been a surprising resource in fighting the pandemic and continue to do so in many innovative ways,” Freimuth said.

Individuals who have general questions that are not answered on the website can call 2-1-1 for assistance. The hotline is available 24 hours a day and has multilingual assistance. Anyone who is out-of-state or requires a toll-free number can connect to Connecticut 2-1-1 by dialing 1-800-203-1234. This is intended to be used by individuals who are not experiencing symptoms but may have general questions related to COVID-19. Anyone who is experiencing symptoms are strongly urged to contact their medical provider.
