The Groton Public Library, 52 Newtown Road, will present "The U.S. Submarine Force and Naval Submarine Base New London, a 101 Presentation" at 7 p.m. Feb. 11.

It is the first lecture in a series that will celebrate Connecticut's Submarine Century.

Capt. Paul Whitescarver, the 51st commanding officer of Naval Submarine Base New London, will highlight the mission and role of today's submarine force and the submarine base through a slide presentation and Q&A period.

Whitescarver served in the enlisted ranks for 11 years before serving aboard ballistic missile and fast attack submarines and commanding the USS Scranton from 2009 to 2012.
