Windsor Locks aerospace components maker Hamilton Sundstrand says a new manufacturing line that produces an atmosphere monitoring system for submarines will be more affordable to manufacture and maintain, The Associated Press reports.
Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of Hartford's United Technologies Corp., recently delivered its first Central Atmosphere Monitoring production system to the Navy for the Los Angeles class submarine retrofits and the Virginia class program.
Albert Stefanek, general manager at Hamilton Sundstrand's Pomona, Calif., manufacturing site said the new manufacturing area and production techniques will make the atmosphere monitoring system less expensive for the Navy.
Hamilton Sundstrand years ago adapted to submarines the air monitoring and circulation systems used by NASA space craft.
The company also is a manufacturer of NASA's space suit and airline electrical components.
