CONNECTICUT SELECTED FOR FEDERAL DEMONSTRATION PROJECT TO CURB HEALTHCARE COST GROWTH, IMPROVE POPULATION HEALTH AND ADVANCE HEALTH EQUITY
(HARTFORD, CT) - The Connecticut Office of Health Strategy and Department of Social Services announced today that the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMMI) has selected Connecticut to participate in a new, voluntary, state total cost of care model: the States Advancing All-Payer Health Equity Approaches and Development Model (AHEAD Model).

OFFICE OF HEALTH STRATEGY HOSTS HEALTHCARE BENCHMARKS HEARING FOCUSED ON HEALTHCARE COST GROWTH, QUALITY AND PRIMARY CARE INVESTMENT
(Hartford, CT) – On Tuesday, June 25, 2024 the Office of Health Strategy (OHS), hosted an informational hearing on Connecticut’s Healthcare Benchmark Initiatives. The initiatives play a key role in improving the health of state residents by ensuring access to high-quality affordable health care. OHS released three reports central to the initiative’s mission in May including the Healthcare Cost Growth Benchmark, Quality and Primary Care Spending Target reports.

CONNECTICUT HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCIES HOST FIRST SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH SUMMIT
(Hartford, CT) – On Wednesday, May 22, 2024 the Office of Health Strategy (OHS), along with several of Connecticut’s health and human services agencies hosted a Social Determinants of Health Summit at the Chrysalis Center in Hartford, CT. This first ever statewide summit convened community-based social services agencies and healthcare organizations, community, and state agency leaders to discuss collaboration and alignment on efforts to address social determinants of health and improve health outcomes. According to the National Institutes of Health, social determinants of health (SDoH), such as financial resources and housing stability, account for between 30–55% of people’s health outcomes.

OFFICE OF HEALTH STRATEGY RELEASES REPORT ON THE IMPACT OF HOSPITAL AND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM CONSOLIDATION IN CONNECTICUT
(HARTFORD, CT)- The Connecticut Office of Health Strategy (OHS) released a report “Impacts of Connecticut Hospital and Health Care System Consolidation (2016-2021),” that analyzes the impact of hospital and health care system consolidation in Connecticut from 2016 through 2021.

OFFICE OF HEALTH STRATEGY, YALE NEW HAVEN HEALTH & PROSPECT CT REACH AGREEMENT ON CERTIFICATE OF NEED APPLICATIONS
(Hartford, CT) – The Office of Health Strategy (OHS), Yale New Haven Health Services (YNHHS) and Prospect CT have come to an agreement that approves the Certificate of Need (CON) application for YNHHS’s acquisition of Prospect CT’s three Connecticut hospitals – Waterbury Hospital, Rockville General Hospital, and Manchester Memorial Hospital. The settlement terms will ensure that the quality, access, equity, affordability, and cost-effectiveness standards of the CON statute are met.

(HARTFORD, CT) Comptroller Natalie Braswell and Victoria Veltri, Executive Director of the Office of Health Strategy (OHS), announced today, the release of a new report that utilized the groundbreaking Connecticut Healthcare Affordability Index (CHAI) tool to analyze the effects of recent health care legislation.

Office of Health Strategy Approves CT Proton Therapy Center, LLC CON
(HARTFORD, CT) –The Connecticut Office of Health Strategy (OHS) announced today that it has approved, with conditions, the Certificate of Need application to allow Harford HealthCare Corporation and Yale New Haven Health Services Corporation to establish proton therapy services through a newly established joint venture, Connecticut Proton Therapy Center, LLC (“CPTC”). The 25,000 square-foot Proton Therapy Center will be located at 932 Northrop Road, Wallingford, CT. As part of this project, CPTC will utilize proton therapy, a type of radiation therapy that uses a high energy beam of protons to treat many solid cancer tumors, including tumors of the brain and central nervous system, eye, gastrointestinal tract, head and neck, liver, lung, prostate, spine, and some breast tumors.

Office of Health Strategy and Department of Public Health Selected to Participate in the Strategies to Repair Equity and Transform Community Health (STRETCH) Initiative
(Hartford, CT) – Connecticut’s Office of Health Strategy Executive Director Victoria Veltri and the Department of Public Health Commissioner Manisha Juthani, MD, announced Connecticut, among ten states in total, has been selected to participate in the Strategies to Repair Equity and Transform Community Health (STRETCH) Initiative, a cohort learning opportunity to advance the state’s existing Health Enhancement Community (HEC) model.

Office of Health Strategy Appoints Sumit Sajnani as Connecticut's Health Information Technology Officer
(HARTFORD, CT) - Connecticut Office of Health Strategy (OHS) Executive Director Vicki Veltri announced the appointment of Sumit Sajnani to serve as the state’s Health Information Technology Officer (HITO). The HITO is a statutorily appointed position within OHS, in accordance with section 19a-754a of the general statutes.
