Please note, we are unable to fulfill requests for sickle cell screening records for children who are currently college age.  Prior to 2013, screening results were only maintained for a 5-year period in accordance with CT State Statutes and Regulations. The Connecticut Newborn Screening Program is aware of current NCAA requirements for student athletes and now retains sickle cell screening records for a longer period, so that we may respond to requests from student athletes in the future. You/Your child’s health care provider may consider ordering a blood test called a Hemoglobin Electrophoresis or a Hemoglobin Solubility test, which can be ordered through your local laboratory.  This test will provide your health care provider with the information necessary to meet NCAA requirements.
