Habitat Hike: Preparing for Winter

Tales from the Crypt

Description: Dr. Nicholas Bellantoni, Emeritus CT State Archaeologist, will present a collection of tales from his work in the field. This enjoyable program highlights some scary and funny situations that Dr. Nick encountered as he studied the history of CT and solved a variety of historical mysteries. Presentation is open to all ages, but best for children age 8 and older and should be accompanied by an adult. Registration required.

Nature Trivia

Description: Come on down for an early evening of trivia at the Kellogg Environmental Center. Perfect fun gathering for families and friends of all skills and knowledge levels. Nature's Friends 2019

Description: Visit the Kellogg Estate. Talented and committed volunteers decorate the Osborne Homestead Museum. This holiday season is the bee's knees! Each room is BEE-utifully adorned with decorations representing a variety of pollinators. Tours will be offered Thursdays through Sundays from 10AM to 4PM. On Fridays, December 6, 13 and 20 the museum will present “Twilight Tours” to display the shimmering glow of the decorations from 4PM to 7PM. Please register for groups over 8.

Winter Wreath Making

Description: Wreath making has been a festive New England tradition for centuries. Join Goodwin’s Horticulturist, Warren Hastings, and Maintainer, Bob Johnson, in creating your own wreaths from locally, sustainable sourced greenery. All necessary materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own festive bow or decorative additions! Suitable for ages 12 and older. Cost for this program is $10 for FGF and CFPA members and $20 for non-members

Winter Festival - The Great Park Pursuit

Description:  DEEP’s annual FREE family Winter Festival will be held on Saturday February 1, 2020 at Burr Pond State Park in Torrington, CT from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. CT DEEP’s No Child Left Inside® program in partnership with CARE and The City of Torrington will provide the entire family with many exciting and fun winter activities. Children and adults can spend time together outdoors and try ice fishing (ice dependent), go on a hike, try snowshoeing, play winter games, and view a host of demonstrations from LL Bean,  Resources in Search and Rescue (rescue dogs), ice carving, and much more.  Families may also gather around fire pits for a good old-fashioned marshmallow roast sponsored by REI.  Boyscouts will be selling food and drinks as well. Please dress warm and join us for a great day outdoors at Burr Pond.
