Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements on the 50th Anniversary of the Death of Robert F. Kennedy
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding the 50th anniversary of the death of Robert F. Kennedy:
Governor Malloy said, “In 1963, our country lost President John F. Kennedy. In 1968, we lost Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A mere two months later, we lost the life of the man who was blessed and burdened with the ability and the fortitude to carry on the legacies of both President Kennedy and Dr. King. Today, we honor and remember Robert F. Kennedy, a man who fought for civil rights, for justice, and for peace. Much has changed since June 6, 1968. We’ve taken great strides and worked together to make our country a better place to live for all people. But we still have so much work to do. Today, our country stands on the precipice of defining our core principals as Americans. We stand for justice. We stand for equality. And, we stand for freedom and love of all people – no matter, their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or place of birth. Today, and every day, we must carry on the mantle of individuals like the great Robert F. Kennedy in our words, in our actions, and in our hearts.”
Lt. Governor Wyman said, “The assassination of Robert F. Kennedy was a great loss for our nation. In turbulent times, he was a beacon of hope for so many Americans. Fifty years later, we honor his legacy by continuing the fight for justice and equality, leading with courage and love, and each doing our small part to bend history.”
