GOV. MALLOY STATEMENT ON SENATOR LIEBERMAN'S FAREWELL ADDRESS
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the following statement in response to the farewell address delivered by Senator Joseph Lieberman on the floor of the United States Senate this afternoon.
"Today's speech by Senator Lieberman marks the end of an era. Whether fighting for civil rights in the 1960s, human rights over the course of his career, or on a daily basis for his constituents as a state Senator, state Attorney General, and U.S. Senator, Joe Lieberman has devoted a lifetime to public service. It's also safe to say that many Connecticut residents, and Jewish Americans across the nation, felt an enormous sense of pride when the Democratic Party made him our nominee for Vice President in the year 2000.
"Joe and I have known each other for many years. Throughout his remarkable career, he has been a steadfast and ardent advocate, and I've always admired his commitment to the people of the United States, and in particular to the people of Connecticut.
"With his retirement, Joe begins a new chapter of his life; one that is sure to be about service to Connecticut and the United States. I wish him and his family nothing but the best."
