MALLOY LAUDS PASSAGE OF DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL REPEAL

December 19, 2010
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor-Elect Dan Malloy released the following statement regarding yesterday's Senate passage of the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
"I didn't support Don't Ask, Don't Tell when it was enacted 17 years ago - I am among those people who have waited a long time for its repeal. People who love their country enough to serve in the military shouldn't have to hide who they love in order to do so. As someone who has proudly supported gay rights, I believe what we saw yesterday in Washington represents the thinking of so many Americans in 2010. We need to enact policies that favor equality and fairness; not divisiveness and separation. I commend Senators Lieberman and Dodd for their support of this bill and leadership on this issue, without which, this bill may not have passed."
