Corrected Forms 1099-G To Be Issued By DRS

PURPOSE: The purpose of this Announcement is to alert taxpayers and tax practitioners that the Department will re-issue Forms 1099-G to people who were given incorrect data on the copy of the form that they received in late January or who never received a Form 1099-G when they should have. The corrected Forms 1099-G will be mailed to approximately 60,000 taxpayers on or about March 15.

CORRECTED FORMS 1099-G WILL BE MAILED TO:

a) Taxpayers who transferred part or all of their 1991 income tax overpayment to their 1992 estimated income tax.

b) Taxpayers who had part or all of their 1991 income tax overpayment applied to satisfy a debt owed to another state agency (including certain child support delinquencies).

c) Taxpayers who received a cash refund of a penalty which they had previously paid.

d) Taxpayers who were assessed a late filing penalty or interest which was subtracted from their income tax overpayment. The amount of late filing penalty or interest either reduced their refund or caused taxpayers to owe money to DRS.

e) Taxpayers who received interest as a result of filing an amended return.

Taxpayers may fall within more than one of the above categories.
