Connecticut Individual Income Tax Returns and Payments Due July 15th

(Hartford, CT) – The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) is reminding taxpayers that the deadline to file Connecticut individual income tax returns and make payments for the 2019 tax year is Wednesday, July 15, 2020.

"Given the uncertainty brought by the COVID-19 outbreak, this extension offered taxpayers additional time to file; those who file and pay on or before July 15, 2020, will not be subject to any penalties or interest," said Acting Revenue Services Commissioner John Biello. "The tax professionals at DRS will continue to deliver the highest-quality customer service during these challenging times. Moving forward, we encourage taxpayers to contact the agency by phone or e-mail with their questions."

For those yet to file returns and make payments due July 15th, Acting Commissioner Biello offered the following suggestions:

File and pay electronically
The easiest way to file is online, including via the DRS Taxpayer Service Center, which is easy, secure, and free to use. Since Connecticut's individual income tax return begins with federal Adjusted Gross Income, it is often beneficial to complete one's federal income tax return first. Taxpayers can file a return any time before the due date and designate the amount of payment and date of transfer. The taxpayer's bank account will be debited on the date that is indicated.

Estimated Income Tax Payments

In addition, DRS reminds taxpayers that estimated income tax payments for 2020 income tax liability that were due on April 15th, and June 15th, are also due July 15th.
