Filing Reminder Attorney Occupational Tax

This is a reminder that if you were admitted to practice law in Connecticut in calendar year 2019, you must electronically file Form 472, Attorney Occupational Tax Return, on or before January 15, 2020, even if you are exempt from the tax. If you are not exempt, payment of $565.00 is due on or before January 15, 2020. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in penalty and interest charges.

To file, visit the DRS home page at portal.ct.gov/drs and select "Featured Items" then select "File Form 472" to file your return using the Connecticut Taxpayer Service Center (TSC). Select the type of filing and enter both your social security number (SSN) and your Juris Number. You do not need to log in with a Connecticut Tax Registration Number (CT REG) and login information.

If you are unsure of your Juris Number, go to Attorney Firm Look-up on the Judicial Branch website and perform a search with your last name. If filing for multiple attorneys, you can use the same process to file individually for each attorney, or you can become a bulk filer and upload a spreadsheet with the attorney information. To become a Third Party Bulk Filer (TPBF), visit portal.ct.gov/drs and complete Form TPG-138.
