State Tax Department Names
Employee Service Excellence Award Winner
Department of Revenue Services (DRS) Commissioner Kevin Sullivan announced this year’s agency “Service Excellence Award” winner.
Said Sullivan, “I am very happy to announce that Ken Gorenstein is being recognized with the agency’s ‘Service Excellence Award’ for his outstanding leadership and performance assisting taxpayers. Since he began his career at DRS in 1983, Ken has exemplified our commitment to excellence as a service agency by coaching and training his employees to better assist taxpayers and work through, what can be a difficult time.”
The DRS Service Excellence Award was first given in 1997 to agency employees nominated by a taxpayer or co-worker.
Adelyana Reyes Castillo, DRS Revenue Examiner, who nominated Gorenstein said, “I am not afraid to come to him with a question. He is interested in my professional growth but also supports my personal goals regarding my family and any other career decisions that I may be making. He takes time to train us and guide us. He doesn’t make us feel inferior or less capable. Instead he is patient with our learning.”
“Ken has been a wealth of great ideas having recommended changes to the permit process that has generated approximately $35 million dollars since July 1st 2013,” said Sullivan.
Gorenstein has worked for the department for 33 years, in the sales tax field office and now as a supervisor. He received his MBA from the University of New Haven.
Ken is active in the community serving on the executive board of his synagogue as treasurer and a past president.
