2020 EITC Enhancement Program
Important Update: All 2020 EITC Enhancement Program payments have been mailed out.
On December 29, Governor Ned Lamont announced the 2020 EITC enhancement program (click here for Governor's important announcement regarding this program). The goal of the program is to provide necessary economic support payments to low and moderate income residents struggling with the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the costs of masks, test kits, childcare, and broadband internet subscriptions.
The program will use households’ eligibility for and receipt of a 2020 federal earned income tax credit as a proxy for assessing individual need. Eligibility will be determined, and payments will be calculated based on 2020 tax filings received by DRS up to December 31, 2021. Residents do not need to apply to the program or take any other additional steps to receive the payments.
The payments will equal 18.5% of a households’ 2020 federal EITC, or up to $1,232 for a low-income family with three children or other dependents.
Qualifying residents will receive their payment in the mail by the end of February. Please check this page for further updates on the timing of the program.
The costs of the program will be covered by the Coronavirus Relief Fund, made available through the federal CARES Act.
The 2020 EITC enhancement program is a one-time benefit. Beginning with Income Year 2021, the recent state budget increases the Connecticut EITC from 23% to 30.5% of the federal credit.
