CT Microtransit Services

 

Governor Ned Lamont and the Connecticut Department of Transportation awarded $19.5 million to fund nine transit districts and municipalities in Connecticut for a two-year pilot program for on-demand microtransit services. The new microtransit services will begin in various communities between March 26, 2024, and July 30, 2024.

Microtransit service is an accessible, on-demand mode of transportation that allows customers to use a smartphone app or telephone number to request and schedule a ride within designated service areas.

Wheels2U Logo

ProviderNorwalk Transit District

Program Name: Wheels 2U

Start:  March 26, 2024

 

Schedule: Monday – Friday (7 a.m. - 7 p.m.)

 

Fare: $2.00 per person capping at $6.00 for groups of three or greater one way.

Fare is paid directly via credit card which is stored on the app.

 

Routes are anywhere within the city of Norwalk, Connecticut. (Approximately, a 32-mile zone). Wheels 2U connects with the following services: NTD fixed route buses, Metro-North Train Stations, and CTtransit Route 341.

    Program Name: GHTD Link

  • Monday-Saturday (8 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
  • Sunday (Noon - 6 p.m.)

    Fare: $3.00 one way. Rider’s personal care attendant (PCA) travel free.

     

    The zone is in Enfield and East Windsor. The zone includes the areas around Elm Street and Hazzard Avenue out to and including Taylor Road to the east and the Connecticut River to the west and extends to East Windsor. 

     

    All trips will be point to point and a drop-off time can be specified. Trips can be booked up to three days ahead of time. Passengers will be given a pickup window and may be matched with another passenger heading in the same direction.

     

    The GHTD Link service will connect with CTtransit 905 at the Enfield Square Park and Ride.

     

     

    VTD2GO Logo

    Provider:  Valley Transit District

    Program Name: VTD2GO

    Start:  April 1, 2024

     

    Schedule: Monday-Friday (5:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.)

     

    Fare: 1st Ride Free, $2.00 one way.

     

    The VTD2GO service be provided to the following locations: Ansonia, Derby, and parts of Shelton.

     

    Riders will be able to connect/book a ride through a VTD branded and VTD2GO phone application. A call-in option will also be available. This is a ridesharing / on demand service and when the rider has booked their ride the application will provide them with estimated times for the arrival of their ride. In addition to notifications, they customer will be able to see their specific vehicle on the app’s map.

     

    VTD2GO will connect with the following routes: Metro-North Waterbury line at Derby/Shelton station. CTtransit 255 at Derby/Shelton station and other stops in Ansonia and Derby. GBT at Derby/Shelton station.

    The Milford Micro will make connections with the following services: Milford TransitCTtransitCoastal Link (Milford to Norwalk) Metro-North’s New Haven Line.

    ProviderGreater Bridgeport Transit

    Schedule: Sunday-Saturday (6 a.m. - 8 p.m.)

     

    Fare:  $4.00 one way.

    Fares may be paid with credit card on the app or booking webpage or cash (exact change).

     

    The zones (service boundary) for this service are the municipal boundaries of the Town of Trumbull. The service will connect riders with existing GBT routes, that they can use to move beyond the town. It will also connect riders to points of interest within the town, including medical facilities, shopping and employment centers on White Plains Road, Monroe Turnpike, Main St., and Quarry Rd. Specific points of interest may include Trumbull Mall, Trumbull Library, Trumbull Town Hall, Amazon Distribution Facility, Stern Village, St. Joseph’s Manor, AMC Marquis 16 Movie Theater, Trumbull Senior Center, Trumbull Corporate Park, Hawley Lane Mall.

     

    The service zone will include all the areas within the town boundary of Trumbull. Introducing first/last mile connections to Routes 19, 22, and the GBT hub at Trumbull Mall. Online booking services are accessible through the RideCo mobile application or through the RideCo booking webpage, Riders will be able to book rides in advance or in real-time with the app, online, or by calling in.

     

    gbt connect will transfer to the following Routes 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 15, 19, 22x. These services provide direct access to destinations in Monroe, Shelton, Stratford, and Bridgeport. They also provide direct access to GBT’s downtown Water St. Bus Station to connect with Metro-North Railroad, the Port Jefferson Ferry and GBT Routes 1, 5, 7, 10, 13, 17, 23, as well as the Coastal Link, operated by GBT, Norwalk and Milford Transit, providing access to Derby, Fairfield, Westport, Norwalk, Milford and beyond to points in Stamford, New Haven, New York, Waterbury and beyond.

          This service will be provided in three different distinct zones. One is in heart of Middletown, one is in the Bell Town Area of East Hampton, and one is the entire town boundaries of both Madison and Guilford.

           

          Customers have the options to book their ride through the app or call-in option. Riders will be receiving ETAs and live updates through text and the app.

          XtraMile will connect with the following services / routes:

          • In the Middletown Zone there are direct connections with all seven Middletown routes and two shoreline routes in River Valley Transit District. There will also be connections with CTtransit.

          • In the Belltown Zone in East Hampton there will be connections with the 596 Portland/Easthampton route that gives riders access to the downtown terminal with connections mentioned in the Middletown zone. There is also a direct connection with the Airline trail for bikers. All vehicles are equipped with bicycle holders.
          • In the Madison and Guilford Zone there are connections with two of routes - Route 641 and Route 645. Also, connections to Shoreline East and Amtrak train stations and CTtransit.

            Schedule: Sunday-Saturday (6 a.m. - 8 p.m.)

             

            Fare:  $1.75 fare one way for most riders and $0.85 fares for lower-income individuals, individuals with disabilities, and seniors. If a rider chooses to include an additional passenger in their ride request, the service will charge an additional $0.85 per passenger. 

             

            The service will be available in the West Side, Waterside, Downtown, East Side, and Glenbrook neighborhoods.

             

            Riders will call/request the service to their destination. The system will assign a driver to them which will be directed to their current location. The passenger will be transported to their destination. The service will make connections with the following services: CTtransit and Metro-North.

            Schedule: Sunday-Saturday (7 a.m. - 7 p.m.)

             

            Fare: $1.75

            New Haven will also offer fare-free for individuals experiencing low-income, students, and people over the age of 60. Each one-way trip to the airport is anticipated to cost approximately $10.

              Riders will be able to book a shared ride using either on the white-labeled mobile application or by placing a call to the customer support number. Rides will then be aggregated with other riders going in a similar direction to increase efficiency and cost efficacy. Riders will be picked up/dropped off close to their requested pickup/drop-off location.
