PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

This project includes the demolition of the original Stamford Transportation Center (STC) parking garage that was constructed on Station Place in 1985 and has since deteriorated into a state of disrepair. The pedestrian bridge that connects this "1985 Parking Garage" to the station will also be demolished. The parking garage addition that was constructed in 2004 with connections to the 1985 Parking Garage will remain along with the pedestrian bridge that connects the "2004 Parking Garage" to the platforms. The project will be completed in three phases.

Phase 1. Pre-demolition Activities | See Progress & Schedule for details.

  • Development of demolition plans for the pedestrian bridge and 1985 Parking Garage.
  • Construction of a new storage room and server room in the lower level of the 2004 Parking Garage to relocate some of the functions currently in the 1985 Parking Garage.
  • Access and revenue collection modifications in the 2004 Parking Garage.
  • Relocation of the management office to the New Parking Garage on South State Street.
  • Utility disconnections.

Phase 2. Demolition | See Progress & Schedule for details.

  • Demolition of the pedestrian bridge.
  • Demolition of the 1985 Parking Garage and foundations.
  • Restoration of the garage site.

Phase 3. Post-demolition Activities

  • Permanent restoration of the station building facade where the pedestrian bridge currently connects to the station.
  • Architectural and structural modifications to the 2004 Parking Garage to remove the ramps that currently connect to the 1985 Parking Garage and to restore the parapets after the ramps are removed.
  • Construction of new vehicular access between the 2004 Parking Garage and Station Place

CTDOT has contracted with Manafort Brothers, Inc. to complete Phases 1 and 2, which are planned for completion by the end of 2024. Phase 3 work will follow.
