Responsible for the design of State highways. These highways include all State Roads and Interstates in Connecticut. Also responsible for designing landscapes in conjunction with roadway projects.
State Highway Design develops plans, specifications and estimates for highway improvement projects utilizing State design forces. These projects include intersection improvements, safety improvements, roadway resurfacing, highway drainage improvements, multi-use trails and commuter parking facilities.

News
 State Highway Projects Currently in Design/Construction: 
         For information on additional projects, please visit the Project Information page. 
  • State Project No. 142-149 – Intersection Improvements on Route 74 and Route 195 in the Vicinity of the Tolland Green.  The purpose of this project is to address capacity concerns and vehicular and pedestrian safety concerns at these intersections while also creating gateway features on Route 74 and Route 195 to calm traffic prior to entering the Town Green area.  Design Approval has been completed and the final design phase has been initiated.  Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2018.
  • State Project No. 106-128 – Interchange 58 Improvements on Route 15 at Route 34 in the Town of Orange.  The project proposes to reconstruct the median of Route 15 to provide an acceleration lane from Route 34 Westbound to Route 15 Northbound and to provide a deceleration lane from Route 15 Southbound to Route 34 Westbound.  Preliminary plans are expected to be brought to the public in the Summer of 2017 and Construction is anticipated to begin in 2019.
  • State Project No. 53-192 – Putnam Bridge Trail Connections in the Towns of Wethersfield and Glastonbury. The project proposes to construct a new shared use path connecting the Putnam Bridge between Great Meadow Road in Wethersfield and Naubuc Avenue in Glastonbury.  Preliminary plans are expected to be brought to the public in the Fall of 2017 and Construction is anticipated to begin Fall of 2019.
