   M.2.3 Creating a Terrain from LiDAR Data


This Module will introduce two ways to import TOPO Data:

Terrain from LAS File
Terrain from Esri
Terrain from LAS File

1. Create a 3D Design file using a 3D Seed file.

2. Check to make sure the CT NAD 83 Geospatial Header is attached.

3. Under Survey,in theTerrain tab select the From File icon.

4. Browse to the downloaded LAS file(s). Select the LAS file(s) and click on the Done button.

5. On the Import Terrain Model(s) dialog box only leave Ground checked on. Select the Feature Definition Terrain\Existing Ground. Select Import and close the dialog box.

6. Hover over the boundary of the new Terrain and select Properties.

7. Turn on the desired Items, in the example below Major and Minor Contours were turned on.

Terrain from Esri

1. Create a 3D Design file using a 3D Seed file

…CT_Configuration\Organization\Seed\Road\Seed3D - CT RoadDesign.dgn

or

…CT_Configuration\Organization\Seed\Survey\Seed3D - CT SurveyDesign.dgn

2. Turn on a Background Map and make sure a Geospatial Header is attached. M.2.2 Attaching a Background Map.

3. Place a shape around the required LiDAR Data area.

4. In the DGN file’s search field type in Esri Terrain,Sign in to ersi.

5. A dialog box will appear, select the Feature Definition Terrain\Existing Ground.

6. Follow the prompts and select the shape placed in step 3.

7. Use the Element Selection Tool and select the new Terrain outer boundary.

8. In the Properties Box, Calculated Features Display turn on the Major Contours and Minor Contours.
