Replacement of Route 17A Bridge Over Carr Brook in Portland
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the replacement of the Route 17A bridge over Carr Brook in Portland is scheduled to begin on or about Wednesday, May 7, 2014. A detour will be required.
The project consists of the replacement of bridge #02197 with a 28-foot clear span structure comprised of a precast concrete rigid frame structure founded on piles and cast-in-place concrete footings. Also, the cast-in place concrete wingwalls will be founded on piles and cast-in-place concrete footings. The overall width of the proposed structure will be 35'-8", which includes a 32-foot curb-to-curb width to accommodate a 12-foot travel lane and 4-foot shoulder in each direction. Approximately 500 feet of roadway reconstruction will be performed, along with replacing the existing guide railing with Type R-B 350 guiderail that conforms to current standards.
DOT Project No. 0112-0114 was awarded to The Brunalli Construction Company at a cost of $2,175,447.00 on March 5, 2014 and is scheduled to be completed November 19, 2014. This is Bridge No. 02197.
A portion of Route 17A will be closed to thru traffic with a detour in place from May 7, 2014 until the scheduled reopening of Route 17A on October 1, 2014. The detour will be clearly marked with proper signage directing motorist to Route 17 in Portland.
Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and proceed with caution when driving in this vicinity.
