Hartford Line Removes Bus Substitutions Effective April 16, 2023

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is alerting riders that the recent Amtrak Rail Replacement Project has been completed, and bus substitutions for certain trains are no longer required. An updated schedule will go into effect on Sunday, April 16, 2023, with adjusted travel and connection times on several trains.

The Rail Replacement Project replaced track sections between Meriden and Springfield, Mass., to keep the railroad in a state of good repair. The resumption of train service for bus substitutions will impact departure times by up to 25 minutes.

Hartford Line trains with significant schedule adjustments include:

  • CTrail trains 4405 and 4467, arriving in New Haven at 1:01 PM and 10:13 PM, will resume passenger train service from Springfield to New Haven.
  • CTrailtrains 4404 and 4414, departing New Haven at 8:20 AM and 6:17 PM, will resume passenger train service from New Haven to Springfield.
  • Amtrak 451, arriving in New Haven at 6:30 AM, will resume passenger train service from Springfield to New Haven and will depart Springfield at 5:10 AM
  • Amtrak 412 (Monday-Thursday), departing New Haven at 10:59 PM, will resume passenger train service from New Haven to Springfield.
  • Amtrak 416 (Sunday only), departing New Haven at 7:50 PM, will resume passenger train service from New Haven to Springfield.
  • CTrail train 4400 will depart New Haven Union Station at 7:35 AM.

“It’s welcome news that substitute bus service is ending on April 16, and we’re returning to our routine train schedules. Thank you to the Hartford Line riders for riding with us while the final state of the Amtrak Rail Replacement Project, which improves safety and reliability along the line, was being completed,” said CTDOT Rail Administrator Rich Jankovich.
