CTDOT Developing Plans to Improve Route 1 in Milford

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Office of Engineering is developing plans to improve drainage and roadway conditions on U.S. Route 1 in the city of Milford.

The project includes alterations to the existing drainage network near the Milvon Substation to alleviate routine flooding. The project also includes roadway improvements at the intersection of Route 1 (Bridgeport Avenue) and Schoolhouse Road to improve traffic operations.

“These roadway and drainage improvements will help ensure Route 1 in Milford is capable of handling both routine and unusual storm events,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Stephen Hall. “This is part of a larger program to upgrade aging and deficient drainage systems, as well as to improve safety and access in communities across Connecticut.”

Project design is expected to be completed in the winter of 2025, with construction anticipated to start in the summer of 2026, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with eighty percent (80%) federal funds and twenty percent (20%) state funds.

It is CTDOT’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is essential that the community share its concerns with CTDOT to assist in the project's development. A public informational meeting will be conducted upon completing the preliminary design. At this time, a formal public hearing will not be necessary.
