Public Invited to Virtual Informational Meeting Regarding US Route 1 Operational Lane in the Town of Orange

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a Virtual Public Information Meeting concerning the proposed installation of an operational lane (two-way left-turn lane) on US Route 1 in the town of Orange on Thursday, December 15 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place on Zoom and registration is required. A Question and Answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation. The presentation will be recorded. For instructions on how to access the meeting, ways to provide comments, and how to ask questions, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/DOTOrange106-108.

The Virtual Public Information Meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project.

The purpose of the project is to provide a center two-way left-turn lane on US Route 1, from the Milford town line to the vicinity of Lambert Road, to provide better traffic flow, reduce crashes, and improve business access.

The project also involves rehabilitation of Bridge No. 1881 (culvert) which carries US Route 1 over Indian River, as well as improvements to the existing drainage system within the project limits.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements, including partial acquisitions and easements to accommodate the installation of the center two-way left-turn lane.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2024, based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights-of-way, and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $15-20 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with eighty percent (80%) Federal funds and twenty percent (20%) State funds. The project is identified as State Project No. 0106-0108.
