Public Invited to Public Information Meeting on I-84 Danbury Study

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will host an in-person public meeting for the I-84 Danbury Study on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at Western Connecticut State University, Student Center, Room 202, at 181 White Street, Danbury.

The I-84 Danbury Study is a CTDOT initiative aimed at improving the mobility of people and goods in the I-84 corridor in greater Danbury. The study limit spans from the New York–Connecticut state line to Interchange 8 in Danbury. It also includes the connections to Route 7 at Interchanges 3 and 7. Improving safety and access and reducing congestion on this section of I-84 is anticipated to have positive effects for commerce in the city, region, and state.

At this public meeting, the study team is looking to engage with residents, business owners, and the traveling public to provide information and an update of the study process as well as discuss solution-based concepts that have been developed for both the highway and non-highway roadway networks. Preliminary concepts can be viewed on the project website at www.i84danbury.com/concepts/

The closest parking to the Student Center is at the parking garage on White Street. The public meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be an open house format where the study team will display conceptual plans and information about the study. The team will be available to speak with attendees and offer information about the process and the solution-based concepts. The study team will give a short presentation at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will conclude with a question-and-answer session, where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and offer comments regarding the study.

A recording of the meeting will be posted to the project website after the meeting at www.i84danbury.com/course_cat/past-events/. Individuals with limited internet access may also request that study information be mailed to them by contacting Kevin Burnham at Kevin.Burnham@ct.gov. Please allow five business days for processing and delivery.

The I-84 Danbury Study is now in the Planning and Environment (PEL) Linkages study phase. This study follows Federal Highway Administration guidance and will soon transition from its long-range planning phase to the upcoming environmental review process by assessing local conditions and developing alternatives. CTDOT may adopt or incorporate planning products from this PEL Study into a federal or state environmental review process, pursuant to Title 23 U.S.C to Title 23 U.S.C. § 168(d)(4).

Members of the public are encouraged to sign up to receive email updates and provide study comments on the website, as well as follow the I-84 Danbury Project on TwitterFacebook and Instagram
