Connecticut DOT Warns Against Deadly Driving this Holiday Season; Data reveals COVID made roads more dangerous in 2020
The Connecticut Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety is urging the public to take extra care and caution when they hit the roads this holiday season. Crashes and tragedies often increase over the winter holidays as a result of more alcohol use, distractions and hazardous weather conditions, such as snow and ice. This year, safety experts are warning drivers, passengers, and pedestrians of escalated dangers on the roadways due to the pandemic. Research has shown an uptick in unsafe motorist behaviors during COVID-19, including excessive speeding and aggressive driving.

CTDOT’s State Farm Safety Patrol Surpasses 50,000 Motorists Assisted Since Program’s Inception in 2017
The CTDOT State Farm Safety Patrol – a service operated by the CTDOT and sponsored by State Farm which began in the spring of 2017 - is pleased to announce the service has officially assisted more than 50,000 motorists in need on highways throughout Connecticut.

Be on the Lookout for Connecticut's New Alternative Fuel Corridor Signs
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that motorists on Connecticut’s interstate highways (I-84, I-91, I-95, and I-395) will now see new signage posted to identify the state's Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs).

New Customer Convenience Features for Hartford Line and Shore Line East Mobile Ticketing App - CTrail eTix Now Accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay, Easier Account Login
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced improvements to the CTrail eTix mobile app which provides CTrail Hartford Line and Shore Line East riders with the ability to purchase tickets using smartphone devices. The app is a more convenient way to pay rail fares without needing to carry and display a paper ticket. The app now accepts both Apple Pay and Google Pay, and allows users to log in using Face ID/Touch ID (Apple) or fingerprint (Android).

Click It or Ticket Campaign to Kick Off November 26
The Connecticut Department of Transportation, Office of Highway Safety is joining law enforcement agencies throughout the United States in an effort to keep travelers safe leading up to and during the Thanksgiving holiday. The Click It or Ticket national seat belt campaign, aimed at enforcing seat belt use, begins November 26 and runs through December 3.

Safe Thanksgiving Travel: Coaches Added to CTrail Hartford Line & Shore Line East, and Amtrak; Service Expanded on Hartford Line
Today, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced additional CTrail Hartford Line service and additional coaches on Amtrak, CTrail Hartford Line and Shore Line East trains to better accommodate social distancing for passengers that might be traveling this Thanksgiving holiday.

CTDOT Employee Recognized Nationally for Innovation - Department’s Greg Ciparelli Earns AASHTO’s Transportation Vanguard Award
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced that Greg Ciparelli has been awarded the prestigious Transportation Vanguard Award for 2020 by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). This is the first time a member of CTDOT has been selected among transportation leaders from across the country to receive this award, which recognizes transportation individuals with an exemplary commitment to excellence and implementation of innovative technologies.

CTDOT News Media Advisory - Mask Distribution
On Monday, November 16, 2020, CTDOT officials will once again distribute free face masks to Connecticut rail and bus passengers at various locations around the state. Under an Executive Order issued by Governor Ned Lamont, masks are required on all buses and trains. This is being done ahead of the normally busy holiday travel season.

GOVERNOR LAMONT, SENATORS BLUMENTHAL AND MURPHY, REPRESENTATIVES HIMES AND COURTNEY ANNOUNCE OVER $144 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR CONNECTICUT RAIL BRIDGES
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Chris Murphy, Representative Jim Himes, and Representative Joe Courtney today announced that Connecticut has been awarded more than $144 million from the Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair Grant Program to help fund the replacement of the Walk Bridge in Norwalk and the Connecticut River Bridge between Old Lyme and Old Saybrook.

CTDOT Announces $18 Million in State Local Bridge Program Grant Funding Available to Municipalities - Communities Encouraged to Apply Before November 30, 2020
The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced that the Department is now accepting Fiscal Year 2021 State grant applications from Connecticut cities and towns for the State Local Bridge Program (SLBP). This grant program provides funding to Connecticut towns and cities for the removal, replacement, reconstruction or rehabilitation of local bridges.

Train Service Set to Resume on the Waterbury Branch on Monday, October 26, 2020
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is pleased to announce the resumption of train service on the Waterbury Branch Line, beginning Monday, October 26, 2020. The restoration of rail service follows a six-month suspension and bussing of the service, to allow rail line construction projects to be accelerated.

I-91 / Charter Oak Bridge Construction Project Update - CTDOT Announces Ramp-Reopening Almost One-Year Ahead of Schedule
Today, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced that the Route 5/15 southbound Exit 87 access ramp in Hartford to I-91 southbound as part of the ongoing I-91 / Charter Oak Bridge “Congestion Buster” project has reopened almost a year ahead of schedule.
